“Buzz off!”

One of our favorite books here at our home is Pinkalicious, a story of a girl who eats too many pink cupcakes and turns pink. Swee’Pea, especially, loves this story as her favorite color is pink and I think it’s her secret dream to one day be pink.

In one part of the story, the little girl is at the park when a bee lands on her nose, thinking she’s a flower. The girl responds by saying, “Buzz off! I’m not a flower!”

Yesterday, I came downstairs to find Beautiful Wife, Swee’Pea and TheMonk looking intently at something on our sliding glass door that leads to our backyard. Evidently, they were checking out a mosquito that had landed on the screen. Beautiful Wife explained to them that when a mosquito lands on your arm, you swipe it off your arm with your hand before it leaves a mark.

As I approached them, Beautiful Wife asked Swee’pea to tell me what you do when a mosquito lands on your arm.

Swee’Pea turned to me, took her hand and dramatically swept her arm and shouted out, with a laugh I want to remember forever, “BUZZ OFF! I’M NOT A FLOWER!!”

  1. Ane just got “Pinkalicious” from my parents for Easter, after loving it so much from the library. We have “Purplicious” in hiding for later. :)

  2. My parents regret the day they bought a book about a bratty little girl who thought she was a queen, “Is the milk fresh?” she would always ask haughtily. Indeed, that was the line I chose to repeat every morning when getting my cereal.

I think “BUZZ OFF! I’M NOT A FLOWER!!” has a much better chance of being used in a variety of exciting ways. ;-)

  3. My daughter also loves that book – and can now recite it word for word. I love switching up the words on her to get her reaction when Pinkalicious’ stomach isn’t the color of a sunset.

  5. we just heard that story during our library hour a few weeks ago. being that i have two boys, neither were very enamored of the book, but i found it adorable. in truth, neither really care for any of the read books lately, they only want to pull every book off every shelf….but we still go cuz i am determined that the library will be firmly imprinted in their make up. i can just see the pea….so cute.
